Living 'where Mountains Meet' is an ethos that goes far beyond what you wear. It's a lifestyle that is an ever-evolving process meant to be lived out through community.
As a NYC based and produced collection we love finding other brands that have the same ethos as us – which is why we were so excited to discover Lowercase! Handcrafted in Brooklyn’s Army Terminal, Lowercase is committed to designing and producing the highest quality sunglasses in-house. Their frames move through a 30-step process that incorporates both the latest manufacturing processes and delicate handwork.
Instead of using oil-based plastics – which is mainly what we produce in America – Lowercase imports Acetate from Italy. Made from a renewable resource, Acetate is a hypoallergenic, wood pulp and cotton based plastic. It’s also stronger then common plastic, resulting in a product that delivers on quality and responsibility.
In our experience finding a reliable, environmentally conscious and ethically made bag can be a bit of a challenge. “Vegan leather” is *usually* just a well crafted marketing term for a cheap, toxic material. Fortunately for you, we found the answer – von Holzhausen.
Launched in 2015, this Malibu based accessories collection focuses on providing luxury eco-conscious accessories that are just as beautiful as they are functional With a focus on social and environmental impact, each item von Holzhausen produces is made in the USA with leathers that are either a bi-product of the food industry or technik leather – which is animal free, toxin-free and minimally dependent on natural resources.
Not sold yet? They also donate a portion of all profits to Hope Gardens. An organization that is focused on helping women regain independence through long-term rehabilitation programs and support services.
One of the things we love most about this jewelry brand is that you always know an Anndra Neen piece when you see it. They are statement accessories meant to be commented on, talked about and passed down from generation to generation.
Handcrafted by Artisans, these pieces are made out of mixed metals and silver in Mexico City. The design duo works closely with their team to ensure that each piece is of the highest quality and still maintains the hand of each Artisan. For them, the production process is just the beginning of a story that is continued only by the woman who wears it.
This is not the first time we have mentioned this brand (or the last!). We truly love and support what Jessica Hendricks Yee has created with The Brave Collection!
Each piece is handmade by Cambodian Artisans using a combination of traditional metalwork and weaving techniques. The Artisan community, mainly comprised of women and mothers who come from underprivileged backgrounds, work in a small studio or from home so that they are able to care for their children. All artists work in a fair and dignified environment where they are paid above average wages and receive health and education benefits.
Even more, the Brave Collection is fighting to eradicate human trafficking in Cambodia by donating 10% of their profits to an organization that empowers vulnerable Cambodian girls.
